This week’s Disneyland metaphor, once again, could not be more perfect.

For those of you who have not ridden on Jungle Cruise, your boat meanders through lush jungle rives riddled with animatronic wild animals, guided by a corny-joke-spouting skipper.

To quote from my book, “Disneyland Wisdom: 45 Life-Lessons from the Happiest Rides on Earth”:

“This ride on the river goes with the flow. In this boat, you don’t take life’s dramas all that seriously. On this journey, as you confront life’s challenges, its twists and turns, the flow of energy and the passage of time, consider your passive stance. Perhaps this is what you want and need—to watch life’s drama from a safe place and with humor.”

It is not an easy time to passively watch what’s going on our planet—in our nation— right now. This week’s mission, if you so choose to take it, is to see how you can disengage and “watch the drama from a safe place and with humor.”

What would be “a safe place” to watch? For me, I feel like I’m witnessing history and I want to stay informed. On the other hand, watching the news every night is just plain depressing. For everyone.

I’ll share with you where I feel safest watching this drama: from a bird’s eye view. From a distance and with a time-lapse. How I heard it said is to look back 10 years. See how much has changed. Think forward 10 years. It will be at least that unrecognizable.

Innovation will continue. The core goodness of mankind will push through. In the middle of this it feels chaotic, but hindsight will show us the perfection of the moment. It is so curious, don’t you think? What will the future reveal?

And, as with all my cards, there is an alternative way to interpret this metaphoric Jungle Cruise for yourself:

“Perhaps it is time to up your game. Take a personal assessment and decide.”

Is it time to go with the flow, observe the drama, find the humor? or is it time to up your game?

Tell me about you!
